Counselling with Gavin

Individual counselling in Borough, central London (£100) and at held, Haywards Heath (£80).

Everybody who comes to see me brings their whole life with them, not a symptom, a life. But if there's a thread that runs through most of the work, it's this. People come wanting to understand themselves better, and underneath that, working out how to be in relationship, with other people and with themselves.

It sounds simple. It rarely is. Most people, in my experience, don't actually know what they need. Not in a vague, general way, properly know, in the moment, in a specific relationship, in their own head. Getting there is a lot of what we do together.

I work with a lot of men, and I have particular experience with autism and ADHD. But whatever you bring into the room is welcome, whatever's happened, whatever's complicated, I'll be alongside you trying to understand it with you. The one exception is where something genuinely needs a team rather than one person, an eating disorder in its grip, for example, where the right thing is an NHS or institutional route alongside any individual work. I'll say so honestly if that's what I think you need.

We meet weekly, same day, same time, that slot becomes yours. Sessions are fifty minutes, mostly face to face, occasionally online if life genuinely gets in the way, a meeting that lands at the wrong time, travel, that sort of thing. But the work itself happens in the room.

If you're not sure whether this is right for you, that's what the free twenty minute appointment is for. It's a real conversation, not a sales call, a chance for you to get a sense of me and decide whether you'd want to work together. And if the answer's no, that's completely fine. Therapists know as well as anyone that you can't work with everybody, and saying so isn't rude, it's honest.
